Roadworks are causing long delays in Thornbury.
Butt Lane is currently being resurfaced and there is queuing traffic as a result.
PC Paula Manos said: "I believe everyone is doing all they can to to minimize disruption however the lights are not in sync and there is a large amount of stationary traffic.
"If possible avoid the area around Butt Lane near the new builds for now."
Other work being carried out includes road widening, junction improvements and new footpaths as well as new road signage and lining near the junctions of Gloucester Road, Butt Lane and Morton Way.
Further along Butt Lane a sewer in being installed and footpaths altered as a result of the Linden Homes development.
