Just before Christmas, I approached David Marshall (SDC’s project manager for the canal restoration) to ask if we could have some official-looking signs, please, to encourage cyclists to give way to pedestrians, on the canal towpath.
I live locally, and regularly walk or cycle along the canal - it’s a delightful ‘green corridor’ into Stroud, away from the main road traffic and fumes... but there are challenges: there are several narrow or tricky sections, where cyclists and pedestrians are (potentially) in conflict - or at risk of an icy bath!
So imagine my delight! This week, two very official, bright, shiny ‘shared space’ signs have appeared, encouraging cyclists to give way to pedestrians, and (hopefully!) ushering in a new era of peaceful co-existence and canal-side harmony.
Well done, David and the team!
