THERE are now four flood warnings in place for Oxfordshire with 'immediate action required' by residents.

Heavy rainfall from Storm Dennis is continuing to have an impact on watercourses across the county.

Didcot Town Football Club has had to call off its match tonight due to a waterlogged pitch. 

Several roads also remain flooded with seven currently listed by Oxfordshire County Council as routes to avoid, as of 1.30pm.

The four warnings: 

  • River Thames from Buscot Wick to Shifford
  • River Thames for Shiplake, Lower Shiplake and Wargrave 
  • River Ray at Islip
  • River Thames for Henley, Remenham, and Medmenham

The former was added shortly after 1pm this afternoon, while the others have been in force all day.

All four warnings advise residents that property flooding is expected. 

Road closures:

  • B4016 Blewbury Road, Didcot
  • Grove Road, Harwell
  • B4445, Chinnor
  • Islip - Lower Street
  • Islip - Mill Street (partially closed)
  • East Hanney to Denchworth - Botany Bridge
  • Woodeaton Road

The River Thames from Buscot Wick to Shifford in West Oxfordshire was expected to flood 'especially in the areas between Buscot and Radcot'.

An update last night added that by this afternoon 'levels will be similar to the flooding in November 2012 and January/February 2014'. 

The River Thames for Shiplake, Lower Shiplake and Wargrave is also predicted flooding.

The Environment Agency said flooding of roads and farmland is expected and flooding of properties close to the river is possible this morning 'especially in the Shiplake area'.

It added: "Peak levels will be lower than the flooding in Feb 2009."

There also remains 36 less severe flood alerts in place across the county meaning flooding is possible and residents should be prepared. 

Oxfordshire County Council's weather update page warned: "A gradual increase in issues is expected in coming days as the impact of the weekend's rainfall feeds through our river systems."
