TROWBRIDGE Town Council has awarded a contract to build a new storage facility and landscaping works in the town park to Rigg Construction (Southern) Ltd.

The project costs will be covered by section 106 funding following the redevelopment of St George’s Works.

There will also be contributions from the Community Infrastructure Levy and a loan which was based on the cost to the council of its previous rented storage.

The intention is to provide three storage units, one of which will be used by the council’s grounds maintenance team.

The team needs more space for its growing requirement to house street cleaning service vehicles.

The landscaped area referred to as ‘The Thread’ has been designed to include plants used in both the textile and brewery industries, heavily linked to the town’s heritage.

This area, being returned to the park, ensures there will be more public space than there was with the old park storage compound.

The town council will additionally seek to install solar panels to the roof and fast charging pods for electric vehicles.

The council plans to changes its vehicle fleet to electric in line with its developing environmental policy.

Seven new trees will be added to the park to replace those that were previously removed.

Work is due to start on March 30 with a target completion on June 19.
