THE 2020 Stroud Film Festival gets underway tonight for its sixth year running.

Marc Jobst, director of Marvel films including The Punisher and the Netflix hit The Witcher, will be showing his multi generational dance musical, Home, at the Goods Shed tonight to kick-off the festival.

The musical, which has been adapted from his film of the same name, takes place from 7.30pm to 10.30pm, and is about three young homeless people who meet on the streets of Bristol.

Marc will be joined by the team of rap lyricists, screenwriters and choreographers to tell the story.

Afterwards there will be an open discussion about the project, the process of pitching an idea and more.

The festival will run until March 28 at twelve independent venues across the town and it will aim to appeal to an even wider range of film tastes, offering a programme of films and events from award winning recent features and classic movies through to skateboarding films and films with a distinctly Stroud flavour.

Organisers of the festival are also encouraging people to to take up the ‘60 second film challenge’.

The challenge is to make a film in a single weekend and anyone can take part regardless of equipment or experience and registration is currently open.

"We’re looking for creative and inventive films," said Brimscombe based film maker, Sara Tibbetts.

"Most people have the technology to make a film on their phone or tablet, it’s just a question of getting on top of the tech and then you can put your ideas on the screen."

Selected films will be shown as part of the FilmStroud event at Lansdown Hall on March 20, and then on the festival website.

Brand new film makers, young people and experienced film makers are all invited: there will be different categories for the selection so that a wide range of films are shown.

These films will be shown on Saturday, March 15 and on Sunday 15.
