INTERNATIONAL Women’s Day is being celebrated at Trowbridge Town Hall with a Feminista Film Festival & Tour.

It will take place on Sunday, March 8 at 2.30pm, with films shown by Getting Together Through Films for Feminista Film Festival & Tour following the success of its second annual festival in London.

The programme is an inspirational 95-minute compilation of eight short films from Wales to Pakistan.

The diverse compilation of short documentaries explores a wide range of topics related to women of all ages and from different backgrounds.

The films include the portrayal of an LGBT couple in America; the survival of a brave Syrian swimmer from a boat full of immigrants; the story of a mother overcoming cancer; girls fighting for their right to education in a remote part of Pakistan; a rebellious environmental activist; and a fisherwoman who is a single mother in Iceland.

Feminista Film Festival & Tour tells inspiring stories about women and girls from around the world, which complements the concept behind Getting Together Through Films of building bridges between cultures using the power of film.

The event is open to the general public and recommended to anyone over 15 years of age.

There is no BBFC Certification for this programme. There is use of strong language and some nudity.Tickets are £5 each and can be bought on the door or booked online at www.feminista.co.uk.

The funds collected from the box office will return to Film Hub South West to support future film screenings in the region.

Previous International Women’s Day events at Trowbridge Town Hall have included the documentaries, Sonita (Iran) in 2017, Women of the Silk Road (Iran) in 2018, and Even When I Fall (Nepal) followed by the short films Greater Than Love (UK) and Strings (UK) in 2019.

This event has been made possible with the sponsorship of Film Hub South West and the programme Beyond Boundaries 360 which supports talent from under-represented backgrounds to develop skills, confidence, networks and roots into film curation and programming and event production.

The mentoring programme is led by Film Hub South West and Watershed in Bristol.

The organisers thanked Trowbridge Town Hall for providing the venue, and Chris Baker from Cinema For All, for providing technical expertise.
