School children are being invited to participate in a new talent competition designed to find musical stars in the making and give them a platform to perform live.

Tetfest, Tetbury’s annual free live music festival, and the Tetbury Goods Shed Arts Centre have joined forces to launch The Tet Factor, a musical talent competition that is open to any child between the ages of 8 and 18.

Schools are being invited to support this initiative, which is designed to give children an opportunity to put a first foot on the ladder to success by showcasing their musical talents in front of a live audience.

At a special event held at the Tetbury Goods Shed Arts Centre on May 10, participants will be able to audition for a performance slot on the main Tetfest stage in July.

“Tetfest is a family event and we want to encourage younger members of our community to get involved and have some fun,” says Tetfest organiser and Tetbury Town Cllr Mark Wood.

“We are all about the music and we know there are lots of very talented local kids who would love a chance to perform live.

"Our message to them is come along and audition at the Goods Shed on May 10.

"One space on the main Tetfest stage is up for grabs and all you have to do is sing to win it.”

Nick Ullmann, arts director at the Tetbury Goods Shed Arts Centre, added: “I am absolutely thrilled that Tetbury Goods Shed and Tetfest are putting on a joint event.

We are very keen to develop our role as a social and cultural hub for the local and wider community and partnering up with Tetfest is a very natural fit in this respect.

The fact that this event is centred around pupils from the local schools is the icing on the cake as we are especially keen to bring young people and families into our wonderful space.”

Children taking part in The Tet Factor must have their parent’s permission to perform at both the audition and at Tetfest, which takes place at Worwell Farm, Cirencester Road, Tetbury, on July 11, 2020.

Application forms and full details of the audition event can be downloaded from the Tetfest website: www.tetfest.co.uk/thetetfactor.
