A YOUTH drama group from Chipping Sodbury are celebrating another triumphant year at the One Act festival.

Sodbury Players Youth Section, known as SPYS, have won the Avon Association of Drama award for Youth Drama after taking part in the competition at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall last week.

The group boast a 100% winning record in the competition dating back to 2011.

SPYS’ production of ‘War and Cake’ by Rob Hockley brought them home with four awards including the top gong for youth, with two individuals also receiving recognition.

Holly Pine was given the Denning Award for Best Youth Encouragement, while Lewis Taylor won the West Town Workshop Theatre Award for Best Youth Performer.

The group was also given the Adjudicator’s Award for a number of the creative moments in the show, including a lightsaber fight and other ‘melodramatic sequences’ in the show.

The Leader of the youth group, Ross Brown said: “We are all really proud of these talented youngsters who worked incredibly hard under the direction of Lucy Cragg.

“Holly Pine and Liam Palmer only stepped in to their roles at short notice due to sickness and so we are really pleased to receive this recognition.” SPYS now go on to start rehearsals for their upcoming production of The Addams Family in July this year.
