WOTTON Area Climate Action Network is hosting a clothes ‘swishing’ event where women can get up to ten new outfits in exchange for old clothes.

The group came up with the idea as a way of reducing the amount of clothing going into landfill, and as a way for people to freshen up their wardrobes.

“You bring the things in your wardrobe that are not quite your colour, not a good fit or not really your style,” said Judit Nemeth-Ratfai, co-founder and secretary of the Wotton Area Climate Action Network.

“The items you look at but never wear, items that you would happily give to a friend

“They could be clothing, shoes, scarves, hats or bags.

“You donate them and hopefully find other things to take home which make your heart sing.”

The Wotton Spring Swish is taking place at Under The Edge Arts, in the Chipping Hall, on Thursday, April 2, at 7.30pm.

This follows from last October’s inaugural clothes swap in Wotton, where 180 garments were exchanged.

“You bring a maximum of ten quality, clean items that you are ready to pass on,” explained Judit.

“You’ll receive one raffle ticket per item, which is your “money”.

“Then everyone can enjoy a glass of fizz, or non-alcoholic alternative, while we sort the donations.

“When all the sorting is completed, trying on time starts.

“If you’d like an item, you exchange one of your raffle tickets for it.

“It’s great fun.

“Then there will be a free for all period when you can take what you want from what’s left. Any leftover items will be taken to the local charity shops in Wotton.”

There is £5 entry fee, which includes a glass of Prosecco upon arrival.

Tickets are available in advance online via: utea.org.uk and from Fish Out Of Water gallery and gift shop on Long Street, Wotton.

They can also purchased on the door.

“We think vintage is best and more sustainable so start sorting your clothes now and put any mistakes to one side ready for the swish,” said Judit.
