A Yate fireman today enlisted the help of his friends to supply and fill hampers of necessities as the coronavirus rages on.

Lee Ralph and his team of helpers fully funded, packed and arranged delivery of essential food packages for the most vulnerable individuals in the area.

The group of friends, made up of 16 families, dubbed 'The Camper Calling Crew' created a list of items they deemed would be most beneficial and bought all produce from local wholesaler, Charles Saunders, who recently opened its doors to the general public, in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The team then spoke with local community transport company 'Green Community Transport' who works closely with elderly and vulnerable members of the community.

Green Community Transport manager, Jenny Bright, was able to identify from her registered members whom would most benefit from the essential packages and her team of drivers agreed to deliver the hampers to those people, free of charge.

The packages were boxed and hand delivered to Green Community Transport and Jenny said:

"Out of this horrendous situation,, some good things are happening, its so wonderful to see the work of the community. I have had the most awful week and you have literally just made it so much better, you have no idea how much this will help these people."

Lee Ralph added:

It truly is a team effort, we are great friends and great friends rally together. If we have made just one persons life a little bit easier this week, we will be happy."

The Camper Calling Crew put a note in each package:

"A little about us, we are a group of local families whose children go to school together and we often socialise and go camping together, hence the team name. We all live in Yate and are proud to support people in our local area."

They added a contact number for someone within the group to continue supporting the person, if they require it.

We would like to share as many stories about community spirit and support as we can.
