A PUB landlady from Yate has expressed her sadness at the announcement that all pubs would have to close from Friday night - except for take-away food - to tackle coronavirus.

Jenna Hale, landlady of the Codrington Arms posted on Instagram: "I stood behind the bar yesterday at 5pm and had tears in my eyes as the announcement was made.

"What followed was an outpouring of love and support from our amazing customers, my outstanding team, friends and family."

"Thank you everyone.

"Some of you may know I quite enjoy throwing a bit of a party, and when we re open ours is going to be epic.

Pubs across the area were serving their last customers last night and turning out the lights after Prime Minister Boris Johnson ordered all pubs and restaurants across the country to close.

Mr Johnson said the measures were needed to reduce “unnecessary” social gatherings by 75 per cent in order to have an impact on the infection rate.
