WITH the coronavirus lockdown in place, a yoga teacher from Sharpness has launched online sessions to help children 'chill out' during the pandemic.
Annabel Hayward, owner of Chilled Out Children, was forced to cancel her classes when her Berkeley studio closed on March 20.
Wanting to give something back to the community during the crisis, Annabel has launched a schedule of online yoga classes.
"I was working in four local schools, regularly taking yoga and mindfulness clubs, but of course this has all stopped," she said.
"My immediate project is that I am putting short sessions of yoga and relaxation together which parents can access on-line for the many children that are now at home called 'Chilled out Children'."
Annabel is running online classes for adults too, and is also recording classes for those who don't have access to the necessary technology for her live streamed sessions.
"Unfortunately, older people who don't have have the technology are not able to take advantage of joining the class remotely and this is the age group who are more likely to be on their own and need to connect with others.
"So I am recording sessions for them and currently emailing them out."
Annabel said she is still adjusting to running her business from home, while home schooling her daughter too.
"I locked the door to my studio on March 20, not knowing when I was going to be unlocking it again. One minute I had a thriving business and the next it was under threat of which I was powerless over.
"I have had to adjust the timetable that I was offering due to having two young children both at home with me, one that I am home schooling.
"Live sessions from home are not an option until my husband gets home to look after them.
"But at a time when anxieties are high and people need to learn how to relax and engage in some nurturing movement such as yoga I feel I am serving my community by continuing to offer sessions in both relaxation and yoga."
