South Gloucestershire have retrained office staff to support their essential household waste collections team during the coronavirus pandemic.

With ‘significantly reduced’ numbers of staff available to collect essential house hold waste, council employees have been retrained and redeployed to aid the efforts to regulate collections.

South Gloucestershire Council announced Monday March 30, that no green bin garden waste would be collected until further notice and that all recycling will be collected fortnightly alongside black bin waste, as opposed to its regular weekly collection.

South Gloucestershire Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Rachael Hunt said:

“We are doing all we can to continue with essential waste collections during the Coronavirus outbreak while protecting our staff and residents.

“To make the best use of our workforce, we are redeploying staff who aren’t currently able to perform their usual roles but are able to support other essential functions. Our StreetCare department maintain a dynamic workforce at all times, where for example resurfacing staff may also drive gritting trucks when we experience winter weather, so are well placed to step in and help where needed most. My thanks go to those staff for their commitment and adaptability during these challenging times.”
