RESIDENTS in Yate and Chipping Sodbury opened their doors and clapped for our carers last Thursday (March 29) after an idea on Facebook went Viral.

Tonight there will be round two.

To join in simply to open your front door or window at 8pm and give a big round of applause for all workers on the front-line.

The post on Facebook said:

“During these unprecedented times they need to know we are grateful.

“Please join us Thursday March 26, at 8pm for a big applause from front doors, gardens, balcony, windows, living rooms etc, to show all nurses: doctors: GPs and Carers our appreciation for their ongoing hard work and fight against this virus”

The ‘Clap for our Carers’ is to recognise the work of all members of the NHS as well as other service providers working on the front-line to protect the most vulnerable members of society.

Nationally millions of people stood outside their homes and leaned out of windows to join in the show of appreciation for NHS workers.

Kashelle Hawkins, NHS Paramedic was working at the time of the event, said she was overwhelmed at the response to the national appeal.

She said: “It was really overwhelming.

“I was in the ambulance, the whole street was clapping and cheering, I cried.

“ It was so nice for everyone to show they are supporting the NHS and all the other key workers. “We are all working so hard and this is just the beginning. I am so proud to do my job and I am proud of our community.”
