Yate foodbank have been inundated with offers of volunteers following a plea on social media for support.

Around twenty volunteers, with thirty more pencilled in to help when required.

The volunteers work daily to process donations and put together parcels for families who have find themselves in serious financial difficulty.

The coronavirus pandemic has had such a financial impact, the North Bristol foodbanks of which Yate foodbank belongs, have seen a 300% increase in families requiring support from the foodbanks.

From next week will be delivery only

Elaine Weaver, a volunteer at the Yate foodbank said:

"We have been very fortunate with both financial and food donations from local business and members of the public.

"However, with the numbers growing as rapidly as they are, we need all of the help we can get. "The local supermarkets have started to give us fresh food as well as non perishables so are emergency parcels can last slightly longer than the three days they’re meant to.

"Local clubs have started to donated financially and this is massively helping us as Tesco allow us to shop when it is closed for much needed supplies.

"Lots of the individuals that use our service would normally stop and talk about their lives and problems and now we cant do that so each parcel we send out will have a message of encouragement and hope

"In the current situation far more people need our help than ever before, we are grateful for the continuing donations and finance and we ask that if you can support us, then please do so.

"I would also like to thank our army of volunteers they are putting themselves at risk every day to help others and I think it is truly commendable.”

From next week all foodbank parcels will be delivered directly to families that require the services.
