A MUSICIAN from Wotton under Edge has set up a new online radio station for the town called Edge Radio, which aims to entertain people who are confined to their homes due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Jason Titley is behind the initiative, which launched on Friday night.

The station is broadcasting a range of music, with many of the shows hosted by DJs involved in the regular Eclectic Avenue nights at The Swan pub.

There are plans to include local topical conversation programmes in the schedule too, as more presenters come on board.

Jason is a seasoned broadcaster, having hosted a weekly acoustic music show online for two years.

And as a musician, he was the drummer in Wotton band the Bad Dads and plays guitar in the Leon Hunt and Jason Titley duo.

The duo had lots of festival performances booked in the coming months but, with the country in lockdown, these have all been cancelled.

With more time on his hands, Jason turned his attention to something that he had been thinking about doing for a while - starting a local radio station.

“With everybody at home, I thought now is the time to do it,” he said.

“The station is only a week old, but it’s been good fun so far.”

At the moment there are shows every evening apart from Sunday, when there is a morning show, At The Movies, presented by Andy Sutton featuring film soundtracks.

Jason’s show, broadcast on Mondays, features a selection of acoustic music, including bluegrass and country, Americana, folk and world.

And Sarah Titley, Jason’s wife, has her own show too, in which she talks to people about one song which means something to them and why.

Other programmes include: Tom Beasley’s Cosmic Trigger; The Paul Groom Show; Near Midnight with Paddy Doherty; Nik Howden’s Ozzie Tempticles; Yeti’s Rave Cave with Ian Preston; Dr Zedd’s Alchemy and Liquid Remedy; Flattening the Curve with Tall Paul, presented by Paul Hill; and Lost in the Orchard with Ben Wells.
