Stroud's MP Siobhan Baillie has given birth to a baby girl.

The Conservative MP, first elected in December, gave birth at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

Apost on the MP's Facebook page stated: "Siobhan and her husband are delighted to announce that they have welcomed their first child into the world.

"The baby girl was born a healthy 8lbs 9oz at the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital after a late night transfer from Stroud Maternity Hospital.

"Siobhan said: ‘We are bowled over by love for our daughter. I can’t stop staring at her and I’m chuffed to bits to be a new mum.

"We want to thank the amazing Stroud Maternity and Gloucestershire Royal teams.

"They were the perfect people to support us through the birth and at this special time.'"

A Tweet from the MP's Twitter account stated: "Happy to welcome our baby daughter into the world.

"She arrived at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital after a late night transfer from Stroud Maternity. Cannot thank the two teams enough.

"Looking forward to going back to the Maternity unit later and excited about being a new mum."

Siobhan announced her pregnancy in February, shortly after becoming Stroud's first female MP.

Speaking about her plans for maternity leave recently she said: “My plan is to have at least the first four weeks off after the birth away from the job.

"I want an opportunity for our new family to bond and time to learn how to be a mum, and I hope everyone can understand this.

“Thereafter, I will then return to my maternity leave during the summer recess months, returning to Parliament in October after conference recess.”
