A Yate business has stocked up on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to support the local community, after Government announced it must be worn by anyone using public transport.

Transport secretary, Grant Shapps, announced the new rule yesterday (June, 4), and it will come into force on June, 15.

The new measures make it mandatory for anyone using public transport, including buses, coaches, trains, trams, ferries or aircrafts, to wear a face mask. Only very young children, disabled individuals or people with breathing difficulties will be exempt.

Pearce Brothers Mobility have continued providing PPE to keyworkers in the NHS, care and transport services as they remained open throughout lockdown, to support the essential services and the most vulnerable members of society.

Pearce Bros Mobility's stock of PPE , including disposable and reusable face masks, visors, gloves and aprons has been used to support health professionals and care providers, throughout the coronavirus pandemic, but as lockdown eases, the company are preparing to assist other local industries, who will require PPE to ensure its safe for them to re-open.

Pearce Bros Mobility specialises in the repair and provision of essential items such as stairlifts, rise and recline chairs, wheelchair and personal care items.

Danielle Base, specialist occupational therapist, at Pearce Bros Mobility said:

"For companies to adhere to guidelines and for the safety of themselves and their clients, it is vital that they have access to PPE.

"We have had lots of local businesses including, dentists, hairdressers and beauticians, members of construction and food manufacturing industries, all coming into the showroom this week to buy their PPE.

"We are pleased to be able to offer PPE now to all members of the public, especially after the government announcements making it compulsory for individuals to wear face masks on public transport from June, 15."

Danielle and her team have carried out virtual and in-house assessments and provided advice on essential equipment provision and PPE throughout lockdown.

She added:

"We have continued to carry out all essential visits, we have adhered to social distancing guidelines and have been wearing full PPE to keep ourselves and our clients safe.

"These visits have enabled many local individuals to remain independent and safe in their own homes during this unprecedented time.

"We have also focused on providing pressure care products to reduce the risk of individuals developing pressure ulcers, due to sitting for longer periods of time with not being able to go out, especially for those who are shielding.

"It has been a team effort supporting our local community.

"I have even been out delivering masks and gloves in the evenings to ensure carers have suitable PPE.

"I want to thank Jim, James and Jerry for all their help and time. We couldn't have remained open and provided such a good service without them.

"We want to continue supporting our local community with PPE and are always happy to answer any queries."
