A petition against the closure of Thornbury High Street has garnered 500 signatures.
The ePetition on South Gloucestershire Council's website states: "We the undersigned petition the council to reconsider the closing of Thornbury High Street at the present time and the proposed permanent closure.
"I feel that even in the present circumstances of Covid-19 the closure is not necessary. It is also felt that the closure will cause the demise of present business in the Street. It is also felt that the proper consultation of the public has not occurred."
The petition, started by Clive Washbourne has currently been signed by 512 people.
Clive said: "If this closure goes ahead I am certain that it will be the final nail in the High Street coffin and Thornbury."
Riddifords and Hawkins, two of the high street's most prominent businesses and both vocal opponents of the closure, have paper copies of the petition in their shops.
