A woman from Yate has gone straight to number one with her debut single.

Martha Clements released her first single ‘Her Name’s December’ at midnight on June, 5 and by 6am it was in the number one spot of the singer songwriter charts on iTunes.

The original song was written by Martha in 2019 and depicts the "character as a bleak winter."

The acoustic pop singer first found her love for creating music when singing to St Pauls, Yate, Church congregation, as a child.

Martha said: "

"I find pleasure in constructing creative lyrics and melodies"

"My passion for indie acoustic pop started when I was 12.

"I distinctly remember listening to the radio on my flip phone, The station started playing ‘People help the people’ by Birdy.

"Last summer I performed at my first festival with my own original material, and will follow the release of my debut single with my EP.

"To hear I was number one on iTunes singer songwriter chart and charting at number 31 on the All Genre iTunes pop chart, was unbelievable!

"A week on and the action has still not slowed. Over six thousand streams on Spotify and counting, I am speechless!

"My plan going forward is to hopefully have a second successful release for my EP ‘Lunar Eyes’ with more music coming over the horizon."

Her Name is December is available to download now. Lunar Eyes will be released on July, 17.
