Thornbury Town Council have said that play areas will reopen 'as soon as possible', but not all be ready this weekend.

Play areas and outdoor gyms are permitted to open from Saturday, July 4, but the council say there is 'a lot of work to do' to ensure the sights will be safe.

A post on the Thornbury Town Council Facebook page stated: "We are working to reopen our play areas and outdoor gym equipment as soon as possible so children and adults can enjoy the health benefits of exercising and playing outdoors.

"Once we receive more detail and guidance from the government about the measures required to open these facilities safely, with ongoing social distancing to save lives as we emerge from Covid-19, we will do everything we can to open them as soon as possible from Saturday, July 4.

"There is a lot of work to do to make sure all of our sites are safe for people to use and meet national safety requirements.

"We need to reinstall equipment which we removed from some play areas during lockdown, check for any damage and carry out rigorous safety inspections at all sites.

"We aim to open all our sites as quickly as we can. However, due to the work we need to do to make sure they are safe, it won’t be possible to open them all on Saturday 4 July.

"For your own safety, do not use play areas and outdoor gym equipment unless it’s clear that a site has been fully opened."
