THE British School in Wotton under Edge has been recognised as a ‘Good’ school after a recent Ofsted inspection.

Co-head teachers, Jane Clarkson and Abel Roche, said they were delighted with the result of the inspection, which took place in March, shortly before lockdown.

“We have been consistently recognised as a good school by Ofsted, who have inspected us four times in the past ten years and have rated us as securely good across all areas," said Mrs Clarkson.

"We are extremely proud of our recent report which reflects the hard work and dedication of the staff, governors, parents and of course the children.”

The report highlighted that The British School has 'developed an exciting and engaging curriculum that is well planned' and that 'as a result, pupils know more and remember more'.

Ofsted reported that 'particular strengths include reading, mathematics, science and music', with inspectors noting that at The British School 'pupils love reading' and 'pupils understand why reading is important'.

Acknowledging the passion and commitment of teaching staff, the report found that 'leaders have high expectations of all pupils' and 'know and understand their pupils well'.

The co-heads of the school view the Ofsted report as an important step in their journey towards becoming outstanding.

“We are extremely proud of our wonderful school community and firmly believe that The British School is striving towards an outstanding future,” said Mr Roche.
