SUMMER daisies have been popping up on pavements in Nailsworth, but with a difference.
These daisies are two metres apart, spray painted in the town to remind residents and visitors about social distancing.
The town council came up with the idea and created a custom stencil and the colourful painting is being done by local architect and artist, David Austin, assisted by artist John Rodgers.
The town council had been asked by traders if it was possible to have a marking scheme like other towns have, but were keen to take an approach that suited the Gold 'Britain In Bloom' Award town. They created a stencil and recruited volunteers to apply them.
A council spokesperson said: “With the relaxing of some lock-down rules, the government has stated that distancing in public should be 1m plus, which actually means 2m, unless you have PPE like a face mask.”
Town mayor, Jonathan Duckworth said: “We racked our brains to find something that suited the town, and came up with the daisies.
"They are a great way of reminding people to keep a safe distance, without hectoring or being authoritarian.”
