MP LUKE Hall has secured rapid and fast electric car charging points across South Gloucestershire, including in Frampton Cotterell, Thornbury and Yate.

These will ensure that people from all neighbouring villages and hamlets, as well as these towns, have access to a car charging point near their homes.

The council expects to begin installing the first batch of charging points from mid-July and all 14 will be operational by the end of March 2021.

This is the first phase of the council’s roll-out of EV charging points, with future plans for a number more in places such as Marshfield.

Electric vehicles will play a crucial role in helping the UK to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and are vital to improving the quality of air in our local area, especially in places with high congestion such as Station Road in Yate and the A38.

Britain is bringing forward the date from which no new petrol or diesel cars will be allowed to be sold in the UK to 2035, and so the importance of providing the necessary infrastructure for electric car users has never been greater.

Delivering these car charging points is a key pledge in Luke’s Positive Plan for Protecting Greenspaces and the Environment, alongside fighting poorly planned housing development and looking after our green belt.

Mr Hall said: “I am delighted that this key part of our Positive Plan for Transport is being delivered.

“These charging points will help to give residents and businesses the confidence to invest in electric vehicles, improving the air quality along our busy local roads.

“They will ensure that South Gloucestershire can be a UK leader in sustainable technology and protecting our environment.”
