Work is underway to re-open Stratford Park Leisure Centre in Stroud following Thursday's announcement by the Government to allow swimming pools, gyms and sports facilities to begin reopening.

Staff are currently working hard to ensure the facilities conform to industry and Government standards for the safety of customers and staff.

Stroud District Council (SDC) are finalising arrangements around opening dates and how the re-opening will be phased, as not all activities will be available from day one.

Once arrangements are finalised, the council will be in touch with customers with more details.

SDC are also discussing with the operators of Stratford Park (Sport Leisure Management) the practicalities of re-opening the lido.

The age and design of the facility brings with it a number of specific challenges which need to be thoroughly investigated before plans for opening it can be confirmed.

Cllr Mattie Ross, chair of Stroud District Council’s Community Services & Licensing Committee said: “One of the council’s five key priorities in its corporate delivery plan is `promoting the health and wellbeing of our communities and work with other to deliver the public health agenda’ and this is particularly important as we work to recover from the coronavirus pandemic.”
