Relay fans are disappointed that the annual event cannot go ahead this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The community event, held in July, raises thousands every year for Cancer Research UK, with teams from across the area spending 24 hours walking, running and dancing around the track at Yate outdoor sports centre.

Teams walking for the Yate section of Relay for life have raised an incredible £600,000 since it was started in 2006.

The funds raised in Yate have funded 20 clinical trial into Cancer research.

Chair of Yate relay, Liam Craddock, is urging captains to sign up teams for the 2021 Yate Relay.

He said:

"We were sad to have to cancel this years relay. However, we are looking forward to next years 15th birthday celebrations.

"On our 15th year, we want to raise the biggest amount of money for Cancer Research UK yet!

" I also want to thank everyone, from our teams to our supporters from the last 15 years.

"Its thanks to them we will be able to help beat cancer sooner!"
