An actor and quiz master whose family has been affected by a brain tumour diagnosis, has designed a unique quiz to raise money for a Thornbury charity.

James Ashton is running the quiz in aid of Brain Tumour Support.

In return for donations, participants get to vote on what categories they would like to see in the quiz, which takes place at 7pm on Friday.

"This year I turn 40 and to celebrate I want to raise vital funds for a charity that is close to my heart, all while having a lot of fun at the same time," said James, an experienced quiz master who has been hosting socially distanced quizzes for his neighbours during lockdown. He set up a fundraising page with the aim of raising £1,000, but donations have already passed £1,400.

Every donation made will be matched by up to 200 per cent by an anonymous donor.

Anyone wishing to take part in the quiz, or donate to James' fundraiser, should go to and follow the instruction on the page.

"It's going to be a great night's entertainment," said Nadya Anscombe, PR and Communication Manager for Brain Tumour Support. "The funds raised by James and his supporters will help us ensure our charity survives this challenging time.

"With traditional fundraising events such as marathons, skydives and cake sales not taking place, our income has plummeted.

"So it is wonderful to see our supporters finding new ways of raising funds, having fun and above all, bringing people together. Because together we are stronger."
