A WARNING has been issued after reports of a number of fake calls allegedly coming from a police officer trying to obtain bank details in the Cirencester area.
PC Nick Westmacott from the Cotswold Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “The fake police officer will state they are either investigating a fraud or have a person already arrested in custody.
“The fake officer tries to obtain banking details to help catch the person they are investigating.
“The best course of action is to note the number it is being called from and hang up. Do not press any buttons when directed to do so as this may transfer you to a high rate call charge or another person who will try and obtain your bank account or card details.”
Thankfully so far, bank and police intervention has stopped anyone falling victim to this crime.
