DURSLEY Lions Club's new president, Terry Grocutt, has been welcomed into the post by outgoing president, Tony Hunt.

The Lions and Lionesses raise money throughout the year from various events, which is then distributed to worthy causes and charities.

The Lions' principal fundraiser is the regular Saturday furniture sale at their May Lane premises, from 8.30am to 11.30am, which has just restarted after a break due to the coronavirus.

During Tony Hunt's year as president, Dursley Lions donated £8,900 mostly to local causes.

Open Door (a charity founded for the relief of poverty, hardship and distress), Festive Dursley and the Bournstream Trust (an outdoor adventure play area for children with special needs) were among the many groups and organisations supported.

The club supported a stroke victim’s fundraising walk from John O`Groats to Lands End, as she passed through the area, plus an appeal for a specialised wheelchair.

Members donated Christmas boxes to those in need and, during the Covid-19 pandemic, made scrubs bags for the NHS, and have been helping to deliver food boxes for GL11.

The Lions and Lionesses also supported Dursley Welcomes Walkers, the Dursley Summer Fete and the Christmas lights evening.
