GAS engineers expect to finish repairs to a damaged gas pipe in Dursley today, which caused a leak and a small fire over the weekend.

Two fire engines attended a house on Chestal Terrace in Dursley after a gas leak on Sunday.

The area was cordoned off and nearby properties were evacuated.

Ben Heard, Wales & West Utilities gas emergency service manager for Dursley said: “We were alerted to reports of a gas leak on Sunday morning (23 August) at a property in the Chestal Terrace area of Chestal and immediately sent an engineer to the scene.

"On arrival, we discovered that a third party had damaged a gas pipe in the area causing a leak and a small fire.

"As a precaution, the emergency services evacuated nearby properties while they extinguished the fire. Our engineers worked to make the area safe and all residents were allowed back into their homes on Sunday afternoon.

“Our engineers are now working as safely and as quickly as they can, following all hygiene and social distancing guidelines, to make a full repair and get the gas flowing again to the affected property.

"Barring any unforeseen circumstances, we expect to complete this work today (25 August).

“If you smell gas, or suspect the presence of carbon monoxide, call us on 0800 111 999 straight away, and our engineers will be there to help any time of day or night.
