A 42 YEAR old Bourton on the Water man has been banned from driving for 22 months and placed under home curfew after he was caught at the wheel while two and a half times over the alcohol limit.

At Cheltenham Magistrates Court on August 20, Mervyn Mayo of The Furrows, Bourton, pleaded guilty to driving a Ford Fiesta in Leasows Lane, Great Rissington, on 30th December last year while he had 206mgs of alcohol in 100mls of blood.

The legal limit is 80mgs.

The magistrates sentenced Mayo to a community order that includes a three month electronically monitored curfew requiring him to be home every night from 9pm to 6am.

He was disqualified from driving for 22 months but told that he can reduce the ban by 167 days if he completes an approved driving course costing up to £250 by 3rd Nov next year.

Mayo was also ordered to pay £130 in costs and surcharges.
