Local Conservatives are set to approve a funding boost for biodiversity in Yate public green space.

The funding to support biodiversity in the wetland area of a Yate nature reserve is set to be approved as part of continued environmental and climate work in South Gloucestershire.

The investment, totalling £11,554.59, will be used by the council to research and implement further opportunities to enhance the biodiversity of the sections of the River Frome which run through the Goose Green fields nature reserve.

Funding was secured from the Amberley Lodge development on Broad Lane in Yate for the purpose of enhancing the nature reserve and management of the River Frome.

Since gaining a majority on the South Gloucestershire Council for the first time in 2015, Conservatives have been responsible for more than £10million being invested in public open spaces and community sporting facilities across the district – including more than £1million spent in the Yate area.

With the aim of becoming carbon neutral by 2030, the Conservative Administration has continued to dedicate funding towards environmental and green initiatives this has included £6million over three years for green schools, green transport and green communities.

Cllr Rachael Hunt, Cabinet Member for Communities and Tourism, said: “It is great that we are in a position to make use of this funding to enhance this lovely local green space and boost biodiversity in Yate.

“This is the latest step in work within our communities to deliver on our Climate Emergency declaration and it is important that we focus very much on each action, no matter how small.”
