An army veteran from Stroud has released a science fiction book after initially working on it 25 years ago.

David Peart began writing short children’s stories for his young daughter.

Being a science fiction fan, this led to working on his first book, Two Worlds, 25 years ago as a hobby.

Upon retirement David returned to writing and the book has finally emerged for all to enjoy.

A description of the book online, says: "It's a beautiful morning, barely a cloud in a clear blue sky. Plans for the day are being made, barbie on the patio, day at the beach; but how do you plan for the end of the world?

"Our sun is going super nova, wiping out all life on Earth.

"Don Davies, surgically altered by an alien race, must, in their magnificent starship, Searcher, with a computer called 'Hope', find a new home for the aliens and the few people of Earth that Don has saved.

"Together, they must find somewhere among the millions of planets, in countless universes in the cold dark void of space... Two Worlds."

David was born in Gloucestershire, and he joined the army at a young age and travelled the world.

After leaving the army he worked in local government for more than 40 years and when he retired he became a local parish councillor for a period of time.

For many years, David has been a qualified athletics coach and also coaches a number of local athletes for Stroud Athletic club, and still competes himself.

David said he hopes Two Worlds will be the first of many books he releases.
