A MUCH loved pet cat has passed away after an 'act of cruelty' in Charfield.

One year old Groot went missing for over 24 hours in Charfield last weekend.

He eventually made his way home with injuries which his owner believes were not caused by a road accident but an 'act of cruelty.

Villagers raised more than £1,000 to help pay for his treatment costs but sadly Groot was not able to recover and has had to be put to sleep.

Owners Becky Earley and family say they are broken hearted to lose Groot in this way.

They will now be donating the remaining of Groot’s funds to animal shelters, which have struggled through Covid 19.

Becky said that she was appalled to hear there was another similar incident in the area on Tuesday night.

“I am gutted to hear this has happened to someone else’s animal too,” she said.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call Gloucestershire Police on 101.
