POLICE are appealing for witnesses after 270 sheep worth £24,000 were stolen from a farm in Sharpness, Berkeley.

The theft took place from a farm paddock on Sanigar Lane overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday (6/7 October).

The farmer noticed an unusual amount of mud on the road leading to the farm along with track marks. The animals have no identification tags to link them to the farm.

This crime would have involved a large vehicle suitable to carry such a number of animals.

A force spokesman said: "We are asking anyone who saw a large vehicle like this, or any suspicious activity in the area at the time, to contact police on 101 quoting incident 141 of 7 August."
