Two confirmed cases of Covid-19 at a senior school in Yate has subsequently forced pupils from two other schools to self-isolate.

A pupil and staff member have tested positive for coronavirus at Yate Academy and due to the pupil being in Y12, the three schools connected with Cotswold Edge 6th form, have all told their pupils they must self isolate.

Year 12 6th Form pupils from Yate Academy, Brimsham Green and Chipping Sodbury School have been advised to remain home until after October half term.

In letters to parents, Yate Academy advised both a staff member and a pupil had received positive tests for Covid-19.

Following the advice of Public Health England (PHE) and South Gloucestershire Council’s public health, the school have taken the decision to isolate the year 12 Yate Academy students for 14 days.

The letter stated that the rest of the school remains open, and providing children that are not connected to the bubble, remain well and show no symptoms of Covid-19, that they should continue to attend school as normal.

A spokesperson for Yate Academy said: “Please be assured we are closely following all guidance from Public Health England to keep our school as safe as possible and that the safety of our children and staff is our number one priority.”

“Cotswold Edge Sixth Form is a partnership between Brimsham Green School, Chipping Sodbury School and Yate Academy.

"The Yate Academy Year 12 bubble has been asked to self-isolate and a small number of Year 12 students have been identified at the other schools.”

Children are advised if they do not receive a separate communication to attend school as normal.

Chipping Sodbury headteacher Katherine Turner, confirmed Y12 pupils will have to remain at home, but they are still establishing how long they need to self-isolate, due to when last they were last in contact with the confirmed cases.

In the last fortnight seven schools in the area have sent children home to self-isolate following confirmed cases of Covid-19.
