The annual Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service in St Mary's church, Yate has been cancelled due to coronavirus, a service will be streamed live instead.

Yate Town Council, in consultation with St Mary’s Church and the Yate-Sodbury District Royal British Legion, has taken the decision that the Remembrance Day Public Parade and Service will not be able to take place this year due to Covid 19, government restrictions and to avoid any large gatherings for the safety of the public.

There will be a very small service at St Mary’s Church with invited representatives from the Yate community attending.

To pay your respects at church, there will be an opportunity for the laying of wreaths on the hooks positioned at the Lych Gates from 12.00noon throughout the day on Sunday, November 8. Alternatively, to pay your respects at home, display poppies in windows or gardens and stand outside your homes at 11.00am on Sunday, November 8.

Reverend Gail Thomas at St Mary’s Church has organised a ‘Painting Poppies on Pebbles Project’, inviting all children through local schools and youth groups to paint stones which will line the path to St Mary’s Church.
