Emergency services have descended on the centre of Thornbury this afternoon following a serious crash.

A car has gone over the wall of the St Mary Street car park.

Police cars, fire engines and ambulances all attended the incident.

Rock Street was closed for several hours between Gillingstool and Midland Way but has since reopened.

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 1.36pm about a single vehicle collision on Rock Street, Thornbury.

"We sent land and specialist paramedic crews to attend the incident.

"They treated two patients at the scene and transported them to hospital for further care."

Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called shortly after 1.35pm this afternoon (Tuesday 20 October) following a vehicle colliding with a wall in Rock Road, Thornbury.

"Officers attended, along with paramedics and firefighters.

"The road remains closed while enquiries continue.

"Anyone who saw what happened can report it online or call 101 and give log number 503 of 20 October."

And a spokesman for Avon Fire & Rescue said: "At 13:38, Crews from Thornbury, Patchway and Avonmouth fire stations were mobilised to reports of a road traffic collision on Rock Street in Thornbury.

"On arrival, firefighters found one car had left the carriageway and collided with a wall.

"Ambulance crews assisted one male casualty from the vehicle.

"Firefighters used an LGV platform stabilisation kit, hydraulic rescue gear and small gear to rescue one female casualty before handing over to ambulance crews.

"Police were in attendance for road safety."
