Archway School in Stroud have issued a statement after two suspicious incidents yesterday.

Two students were approached by a white bald man in his 50s and both reported seeing a white van close by.

Two black males were seen acting suspiciously in a white van with a missing number plate.

In a letter sent to parents yesterday afternoon, headteacher Keiron Smith said: "In the area to the east of Stroud General Hospital, whilst on his way to school, a student was approached and then followed by a man.

"The man was described as white, in his 50s and bald. He was wearing a grey coat and black jeans. A white van was seen at the incident and may also be connected.

"Shortly afterwards, in the area close to the Police Station, two black males were seen acting suspiciously in a white van with a missing number plate and the word ‘communication’ written on the side. They were watching a student and then a white bald man in his 50’s was seen approaching a student.

"The incidents have been reported to the police. As the two incidents involved people and vehicles of similar descriptions, it is possible that the two are related, but this has yet to be established.

"We will be reminding students of our advice regarding stranger danger in tutor time tomorrow.

"We have been advised that should anyone have witnessed either of these two incidents or if anyone has further information then they should contact Stroud Police via 101 in the first instance."

Mr Smith also issued a statement this morning.

He said: "Safeguarding is the top priority for any school and Archway School is no exception.

"It is a sad truth that a very small minority of our society seek to harm others within it.

"The school works with parents, the Police and the County Council sharing information about ‘Stranger Danger’ incidents which thankfully are rare. Any incidents of this type are shared between all schools in the county in order that we can remain alert.

"The two students involved are back in lessons and have been well cared for today. Our tutors regularly update students on how to stay safe and tomorrow we shall be discussing this again with them.

"We are thankful that the actions of the boys kept them out of danger."
