Children from a family in Yate have walked the Frome Valley walkway to raise money for an MND charity after their mother was diagnosed with the life limiting disease.

The Lock family raised over £2000 walking the 18 miles distance, starting from the source in Old Sodbury to the Avon River at Castle Park in Bristol, in the challenging fundraiser for Motor Neurone Disease Association UK charity.

Jennifer Lock, a mother of six, was recently diagnosed with the disease. The family decided to do the walk to help their mother and others affected by the illness.

The walk was the start of a 1200 mile challenge being undertaken by Jennifer's children and grandchildren, where they will be walking, riding and running in a series of fundraisers in a bid to raise more money for the charity after smashing their initial target of £1500.

Daughter Sarah said: "On Saturday, October 17, four of Jennifers children, their spouses and grandchildren, some as young as 10 years old took on the walk.

"We met our Mum in Castle park Bristol with banners and balloons."

Motor Neurone Disease is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord, the disease attacks the nerves that control movement so muscles no longer work.

Over 80% of people with MND will have communication difficulties, including for some, a complete loss of voice.

Six people are diagnosed every day. Up to 5,000 people are fighting MND at various stages of the disease.
