ONE student at Rednock School in Dursley has tested positive for coronavirus.

The year 13 pupil is not in school, and any students who had close contact with them have been sent home to self isolate.

Head teacher David Alexander said: "We continue to monitor the situation - we will support the students at home and those in school.

"We have followed the Public Health England and the department for Education guidance rigorously, and take the health and safety of students and staff very seriously.

"As part of that, we will maintain the tight controls around year group bubbles as well as the wearing of face masks in communal areas such as corridors.

"This has had a significant part in keeping us all safe so far.

"We had face masks in place over a month ago - and now national guidance has ordered this from today, so we are being very proactive.

"I want to reassure the community that we are taking every precaution within school to mitigate risk and focus upon student wellbeing - both physical and mental well-being.

"Rest assured we are making this our top priority."
