VOLUNTEER gardeners Blooming Cam have been awarded a certificate from the Royal Horticultural Society’s Heart of England in Bloom committee for their efforts to keep the centre of Cam looking colourful.

Heart of England in Bloom asked members for a 50-word write up of achievements over the lockdown period which started in March 2020 along with a photograph of their volunteers.

Blooming Cam’s entry was: “Blooming Cam was launched two years ago to tackle neglected areas in the centre of Cam, Gloucestershire. The five volunteers were reduced to just two at the height of the pandemic, but what a difference they made! A natural theme this year which has been appreciated by residents and pollinators!”

As well as the certificate, entries are due to be included in the RHS Heart of England in Bloom newsletter.

Volunteer Miranda Clifton, who has been out gardening in Cam most weeks this year, said the Blooming Cam volunteers enjoyed working on the flower beds in the centre of Cam and the areas around the two war memorials.

She added: “It’s amazing what difference a small number of volunteers can make, but just think what we could do if we had more people to help!”

The Blooming Cam volunteers meet each Wednesday outside Cam Parish Council. Contact Jo Lewis on 01453 548884.
