Brimsham Green school have told 76 students in Year 8 to remain home to self-isolate, following two confirmed cases of Covid-19, a member of the teaching staff and a student.

All children in Year 8 were asked to self isolate on Monday, November 16 whilst teaching staff identified which children had 'close contact' with either of the individuals with positive test results.

In a letter to parents, headteacher Kim Garland said: "We were alerted today of a positive COVID test of a member of our teaching staff.

"The member of staff was last in school on Friday, November 13.

"Public Health England have advised us to identify anyone that had close contact with the teacher on Friday, November 13 to self-isolate therefore 76 students have been identified and will need to now self- isolate."

Previous investigations had ruled out that some children needed to continue to self isolate after they were found to not have had close contact with the Year 8 student that tested positive.

However this was then superseded by the member of staff.

In the letter Ms Garland emphasised that children are not made to isolate unnecessarily and that the school recognised the impact on student's learning and mental well-being.

In her letter she added:"It is also essential that we do not risk COVID-19 spreading within the school community.

"Please trust that we will not risk putting your child and your family at risk by allowing any students to return to school who have been in close contact with the confirmed case."
