Builders at a new housing development in Cam have celebrated 'topping out'.

Topping out is traditionally recognised in the development industry when the highest point of the building is reached during construction, and this milestone was reached recently at Newland Homes’ latest development in Draycott.

Jane Grendall, site manager for Newland Homes, and planning manager Catherine Sheppard, who secured the planning permission for the new development, called Redwing Gate, came together to mark the milestone occasion, along with Catherine’s children; Violet, nine, and Sam aged four.

Forty-one homes are under construction at Redwing Gate and each will come with Solar PV panels, rainwater butts and eco-bins.

Catherine said: “The transformation of this brownfield site is well underway and it’s extremely satisfying to see our proposals becoming reality. I’m proud to bring my children along to celebrate this occasion, as these homes represent the next generation of sustainable design for Newland Homes.”

This is the second development that Newland Homes has undertaken in Cam, having completed Strawberry Fields off Elstub Lane in 2016.

The new showhome at Redwing Gate is scheduled to be unveiled in the new year, and it is anticipated that the first home will be ready for occupation in early 2021.
