A Thornbury school has closed after a visitor tested positive for Covid-19.

Crossways Infant School has shut until December, with the year five and six classes at Crossways Junior School next door also closed.

All pupils within these year groups will be self-isolating until they return to school on December 1.

The decision to close was made after a member of an immunisation nursing team that visited the school last week subsequently tested positive for Covid-19.

A statement on the Crossways website says: "In conjunction with Public Health South Gloucestershire and the Education Department of the Council the decision has been taken to close Crossways Infant School and the Year 5 and 6 classes of the Junior School until 1st December 2020 as a precautionary measure; all pupils within these year groups will need to isolate.

"This decision has not been taken lightly and we are wanting to ensure that we are doing everything to protect our children, young people and staff."
