The leader of South Gloucestershire Council has expressed his excitement at the announcement that Bristol Zoological Gardens will relocate to the Wild Place Project site to create one huge super-zoo.
The response to the decision to relocate the zoo, comes following the announcement, that the move is an effort to safeguard the future of the organisation after years of dwindling numbers to the Clifton Site.
The site in Bristol will be sold when the zoo closes in late 2022 and its sister site at the Wild Place Project, will become the new Bristol Zoo in early 2024.
Leader of South Gloucestershire Council Cllr Toby Savage said: “I’m really excited by Bristol Zoo’s relocation plans to South Gloucestershire, which will help Bristol Zoological Society to ensure the organisation is able to continue to provide one of the region’s top attractions.
"The zoo’s move will build on the fantastic Wild Place Project in South Gloucestershire that has already proved itself as a very popular destination for families and schools.
"The new location offers far more space, which is more suitable for a modern zoo and will help the Society continue to develop their conservation and education projects.”
