A senior school in Yate is encouraging its student to support local families in need by donating towards their 'Reverse Calendar' appeal.

Students at Brimsham Green school have been asked to join in with a Christmas Countdown to collect food for Yate Foodbank.

The school have teamed up with Trussell Trust to collect food that will go directly to them and therefore benefit the families of Yate and the surrounding area.

Children are asked to bring in a number of different items throughout the month, that can the be packaged up into festive essential hampers for families within the local community.

Assistant Headteacher Mrs Hewitt said: "Showing care and being generous to others within our own community is one way we can bring some hope at the end of a difficult year.

"In School, we often talk in school about ‘being in different boats but the same storm’ and for many of us this has never been as true as it is in 2020.

"We hope that giving our students the opportunity to bring in an item or two for the ‘Reverse Advent Calendar’ it might help them to reflect on the many positives within their own lives."
