A TEENAGER from Cambridge has collected 22 black bags full of warm clothes for homeless people, to help keep them warm over Christmas.

Rednock School pupil Liam Bennett, 13, wanted to think of a way he could help those less fortunate than himself this winter.

Liam’s mum Kim said: “I asked Liam at the end of October what he would like for Christmas for his main presents and his response to that was ‘I don’t really want anything this year, but can we go around and help the homeless?’

“I asked in what way he would like to help them and he said ‘Well, it’s cold outside so can we give them coats and warm clothes?’

“So we asked for donations and for people to help.”

Liam spread the word of his initiative on social media and managed to collect 22 black bags full of coats, scarves, gloves, jumpers, for those who will sleeping rough throughout the festive season.

“People even brought new items for us to hand out as well," said Kim.

"And my mum even knitted gloves.

“We hit Gloucester on Sunday to give out some of the warm clothes, and we will be going to Cheltenham and Bristol when the tier system comes down.”

Liam said: “It’s been a rubbish year for everyone, with the pandemic, and I just wanted to be able to help someone as much as I could and to be able to give them something to smile about.”
