Column by Thornbury and Yate MP Luke Hall.

Encouraging the rollout of electric car charging points in South Gloucestershire is just one part in ensuring we continue to lead the way in tackling Climate Change.

I am therefore delighted that we have already seen success in our campaign for more electric car charging points in South Gloucestershire, meaning that local people will have better access to car charging points near their homes.

These charging points vital , as electric vehicles emit a fraction of the emissions compared with petrol- and diesel-powered ones, but many motorists, very fairly, feel there are simply not enough charging points in our area at the moment to make the switch.

These will help to give residents and businesses the confidence to invest in electric vehicles, improving the air quality along our busy local roads. They will ensure that South Gloucestershire can be a UK leader in sustainable technology and help to protect our natural environment; the most beautiful anywhere in the country.

We have already made some big achievements: Firstly, South Gloucestershire Council have installed a brand-new Electric Vehicle Charging Hub, based at the Bristol and Bath Science Park in Lyde Green, which features twelve charging bays, hosting six charge points.

And now, new and additional charging sites in Frampton Cotterell and Marshfield have been given the green light.

I have launched a public survey to ask local people for their view of potential locations for these new charging sites. Suggested options include the Miner’s Social Club on Badminton Road, or within the vicinity of Lower Stone Close in Frampton Cotterell and Coalpit Heath, and Marshfield community centre or along the main High Street.

You can share your thoughts on this via my survey at: lukehall.org.uk/form/car-charging-points

Ensuring that these long-needed car charging points are finally delivered, and that local people have access to an electric vehicle charging point near their home, is a key pledge in my Positive Plan for the Environment, alongside protecting our precious green spaces.
