Our search continues for the best takeaway in Cam and Dursley, Thornbury, Yate and Sodbury.

We asked readers to nominate their favourite by Sunday, and they sent us 411 nominations for almost 40 different venues.

Next Thursday we will announce the five takeaways with the most nominations from Cam and Dursley, five from Thornbury and five from Yate and Sodbury.

It will then be up to you to choose between them using voting coupons available in the paper.

Takeaway food has never been more important than during lockdown, and more options have been available as food venues worked to beat the economic effects of restrictions.

David Cox and Heather Ash are two publicans who turned their business into a takeaway and delivery service after The Anchor Inn, Thornbury, lost the majority of its trade to lockdown.

“Takeaways are very important because we’ve been able to keep staff in and usefully employed, and it’s also kept us in touch with our customers and we’ve gained some new ones,” said David.

“The competition is a good idea, it showcases what we and other people are doing and it shows that the people who are doing it are caring for the community at this awful time.”

Louis Fantis, owner of the Great British Takeaway in Dursley, said he thought the competition was a good idea to support local businesses.

Speaking on the importance of takeaways, Louis said: “I think it’s important to do these things that give you that little feel-good factor.”

Whether it’s the Anchor Inn, Great British Takeaway or any other food outlet, make sure to look out for your favourite in next week’s shortlist.
